Machine:
KG-3925 /w Z upgrade and the KT-2514 performed with similar accuracy
Control: DC Servo drives
Spindle: Makita 2 1/4 HP Router /w variable speed
Material: 6061-T6 Aluminum
Coolant: None
We fastened
a 1.5 x 1 x 24 inch 6061 Aluminum to the middle section of the KG-3925
Machine.
We used
a 1/4 diameter carbide end mill to cut a 1.0 inch part with a 0.4 inch
Diameter hole. We turned on the router at the lowest speed setting.
Programmed 4 depths at 0.050 inch per depth pass (total depth of .20
inch). We set the feed rate at 10 inches per minute. Gave it 2 finish
passes on both the pocket hole and the outer 1.00 inch dimensions. There
was some chattering when roughing but with the finish passes the part
came out great. Overall the outer dimensions of 1.000 inch were off
by .001 inch. The pocket hole was under 0.401 and allowed a 0.400 inch
pin gauge to slip right in. The cut time was about 3.5 Minutes (not
optimized).
The Tolerance
may vary on larger parts.
